A Press Conference to be held in the French National Assembly on the 10th of April will mark the launch of the Campaign to Free Marwan Barghouthi and all Palestinian prisoners in France. Fadwa Barghouthi will take part in the launching event. France has been since the abduction of Marwan Barghouthi the heart of the Campaign for his release, especially as Marwan Barghouthi is the President of the Palestine-France friendship group in the Palestinian Legislative Council. French parliamentarians attended the show trial that convicted Marwan, and condemned the arrest of their colleague and the illegal judgment issued by an illegitimate court. The French government and key political figures, including former Foreign Minister Hubert Védrine, called repeatedly for his release. Dozens of french cities granted him honorary citizenship, following their own practice when Mandela was detained in apatheid jails. A steering committee of the Campaign in France was set up regrouping the main organisations working in support of the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, as well as political figures from across the political spectrum. The first signatories on the Robben Island Declaration for the freedom of Marwan Barghouthi and all Palestinian prisoners in France will be announced at the Press Conference.
