The All-party parliamentary Britain-Palestine group will host on the 1st of April the anti-Apartheid icon Ahmed Kathrada, who will address the meeting in his capacity as Founder of the International Campaign for the freedom of Marwan Barghouthi and all Palestinian prisoners. The meeting is co-sponsored by Palestine Briefing and will take place at the House of Commons.
Ahmed Kathrada launched in 1962 the Free Mandela Campaign before being arrested a year later and spending 26 years in Apartheid jails. Ahmed Kathrada was the guest of honour of the Freedom & Dignity International Conference held in April 2013 in Palestine, at the occasion of the 11th anniversary of Marwan Barghouthi’s arrest. During this Conference, Kathrada called for the launch of an International Campaign for the freedom of Marwan Barghouthi and all Palestinian prisoners inspired from the Free Mandela Campaign. On the 27th of October 2013, Kathrada launched this Campaign from the cell of Nelson Mandela on Robben Island and announced the establishment of a High Level International Committee for the freedom of Marwan Barghouthi and all Palestinian prisoners comprising 5 Nobel Peace prize laureates, leaders and former leaders, renowned political prisoners and human rights figures.
